Merely Players.
Where it all began.
These two… I can’t say it enough that there is some damn good representation happening here! I think it was mentioned in an interview (I could be wrong) that LGBTQ representation happens in very little in the genre’s they are ‘merely players’ in. Westerns, musicals, actions movies..

Also, in their song they talk about Love, Fear and Anger. And though it isnt in the same order, I would just like to point out that they go through each step.
Fear… “You’re Scared” scene. 'Nough said.
Anger… Cynthia at the Fall Ball in general. The way she acts with Shy guy, how she dances in Hand Jive. The drink she has after. I found it all to be very angry.
Love… The hall of mirrors with Lydia. Going all in, so to speak.

I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, but Cynthia mentions Marlon Brando in both of her big songs (so far in the series). I don’t know if it’s significant or if he was just a big name for the time😂

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think Cynthia was daydreaming about the kiss with Lydia. I think Merely Players is about how both of them felt something special during the kiss. I’ve been seeing a lot of people say it was only Cynthia discovering her feelings for women, but I genuinely think they both did.
I will also say that, as a Literature student, I learned that many of Shakespeare’s plays were originally acted by people of the same sex, and I mean men since women were not allowed to perform back then (in fact, until the 1600’s), which for me makes it even more special that this is happening while they’re rehearsing Romeo and Juliet.
